Research from our group (by Kratz and Holub) on the directly-determined intakes of children age 2-3 years in Ontario was reported at the 2004 meeting (including abstract) of the ISSFAL (International Society for the Study of Fatty Acid and Lipids) in Brighton, England. The average intake (by direct assessment) of DHA and EPA was found to be 19 mg and 10 mg/day, respectively. Indirect estimates from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2004) suggested the average dietary intake of DHA in U.S. children under 6 years of age to average 0.02 g of DHA per day and 0.01 g/day in the case of EPA.
